The course is also invaluable to anyone who needs to understand the biochemistry underpinning many current medical and science issues, including writers, journalists, investors or advisors in the biotechnology sector, and anyone seeking to understand the biochemical basis of an illness or other medical condition.
Eligibility
Biochemistry with a Medical Perspective is administered through the University of Toronto School of Continuing Studies (SCS). Learn in detail about who is eligible to take this course on the SCS Admissions page.
NOTE: This course is NOT available to U of T students already registered in any degree program at any of the three campuses of the University of Toronto.
Course Credit
Biochemistry with a Medical Perspective is a full course credit-equivalent that can be recognized by international professional programs in the health sciences. The course fulfils a full biochemistry course requirement with 54 hours of illustrated video lectures and accompanying medical perspectives. The course is taught by experienced faculty members in the Department of Biochemistry in the Faculty of Medicine, University of Toronto. There are short web - based quizzes and a final proctored exam.
At the completion of the course, students receive an official Grade Report from the University of Toronto School of Continuing Studies.
Before registering, students planning to use this course for admission to any academic program or as a prerequisite to any other course are strongly advised to get confirmation from the institution to which they are applying that this course will meet the expected requirements.
**NEW** SCS 2472: Biochemistry with a Medical Perspective is acceptable as a prerequisite for one of the two full-course equivalents in any life science for admission into Medical School at the University of Toronto.
Prerequisites
Although there are no prerequisites for this course, high school biology and first year university level chemistry are recommended to assist your understanding of the molecular details of the course.

Instructors are available during their lecture component to address any questions students might have regarding the material.
Communication with the course director and course coordinator
The course director (Dr. Andreopoulos), experienced in the teaching of introductory biochemistry, will help students taking the online course. More specifically, the course director will handle the running of the course including all administrative issues, the online material and will continually monitor the discussion board and address any problems or concerns with the lectures. Dr. Andreopoulos will also arrange and coordinate virtual office hours to provide live chat feedback on the course material on a weekly basis.

Communication with your colleagues via the Discussion Board
Students are actively encouraged to answer questions posted by their fellow classmates enrolled in the course. Responses are again monitored and verified by the course coordinator.
