When Should I Begin Contacting Potential Supervisors?
Unlike many graduate programs, students in our program choose their supervisors only after completing three research rotations. For domestic applicants, there is no need to contact or secure a specific supervisor before applying. If offered acceptance into the program, applicants will have the opportunity to visit the department and meet faculty. As part of acceptance, applicants will also need to indicate their top five preferences for rotations.
There is one instance where applicants must contact potential supervisors in advance of submitting their application:
International Students*
While International Students also have the opportunity to indicate their rotation preferences and select their supervisor after the three rotations, they must obtain a Faculty Sponsor before applying to the program. This Sponsor agrees to supervise the student in the case that an alternate supervisor is not selected after the rotation period. Students should begin to contact potential sponsoring supervisors in advance of submitting their application materials. For more information, see How to Apply
*Exception - Students who received their BSc degree from the University of Toronto*
Where/When do I upload my supporting?
The first step (Step 1) is to fill out the online application form. During this step, you will have the option of uploading your transcripts, letter of intent and CV, but it is not required at this point. You can submit the online application form without these documents. The "Review" page of the application form will alert you if you are missing any required fields. If there are no issues, you can click "Continue".
Once you click "continue" you application will be officially submitted, and from there you should be taken to your applicants status portal (Step 2). This is where you will pay your fee, see your checklist of all required materials, and upload those items.
If you do not see a place to upload your documents, it is possible that you have not completed Step1 and your application status is still "Awaiting Submission". This means that you have not yet submitted the application form and therefore have not reached Step 2 to pay the fee and upload your documents.
