PLVAP Diagram
In a study published in Cellular and Molecular Gastroenterology and Hepatology, Aleixo Muise, Clinician-Scientist and Co-Director of the IBD Centre, and a team of Sick Kids researchers reveal that a genetic defect causes a mutation of the PLVAP gene. The mutation leads to the loss of the protein filter in blood vessels in the bowel. Further research into this new disease may lead to new treatments and a better understanding of other diseases resulting in severe protein loss.
