Each monomer of OprP contains an electropositive channel that is created by an underlining ladder of seven arginine residues. This ladder spans from the extracellular surface down to the the eyelet of the channel where phosphate is coordinated by an additional two arginine residues, a serine, tyrosine and aspartic acid.
